Claudreen Jackson lives in Detroit, Michigan. She is a retired special education teacher from Detroit Public Schools. She is the mother of four children and the grandmother of eight. Her youngest son, Pervis Jackson Jr. (PJ) is handicapped by autism.
 

Her son's disability inspired her to become an advocate for people with disabilities in the state of Michigan. She served on many committees, including appointments by both Governors Blanchard and Engler to their Developmental Disabilities Advisory Committees. Claudreen says "the fact that my son cannot talk gave me the courage to speak for him and others like him".
 

She has been writing poetry for thirty years and has previously published a book of poems "Let There Be Light" which represents her wish for society.

Her current book, "Inspired by Autism" is a letter from her to the parents of children with disabilities. Claudreen says, "I was burdened by autism, embarrassed by autism, exhausted by autism, defeated by autism, overwhelmed by autism, etc. I never thought I would get to the point where I would say that I am inspired by autism. I offer this book as a spoonful of comfort to parents".
 

Claudreen was married to Pervis Jackson, a member of the award winning Spinners singing group. Pervis Sr. mentored and inspired Claudreen as she was writing this book about their son. Sadly, he did not live to see the final product because he died in August 2008. Claudreen said "he died, but not before he shared his plan with me to start the Pervis Jackson Jr. Autism Fund. The proceeds from the book will go into this fund to fulfill his wishes".
