About The Color of Autism Foundation

Who We Are

As a National US Based Neuro-Affirming Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization, we are deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and support for African American families navigating the world of autism. Our belief in inclusion by design guides our efforts to provide education and assistance to these families, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing crucial resources and understanding.

Autism transcends racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic boundaries, yet African American children often face delayed diagnoses or misdiagnoses, leading to unique challenges. Recognizing this disparity, our focus on African American Autism Support is paramount in addressing these underserved communities’ needs.

Our primary objective is to equip families with the tools to recognize early warning signs of autism. By embracing a neuro-affirming approach, we strive to bridge the gaps and empower African American individuals with autism to achieve their fullest potential. Through accessible information and advocacy resources, we aim to empower families, enabling them to effectively advocate for their child’s essential services.

At our core, we are driven by the belief that proactive education, timely support, and inclusive advocacy form the pillars of a community where individuals with autism, especially within the African American community, can thrive and contribute their unique strengths and perspectives.

Our Mission

The Color of Autism Foundation: Championing Inclusion by Design and Empowering the Autism Community

The Color of Autism Foundation is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society where autistic individuals—particularly those from underserved communities—are empowered to thrive. Our mission extends beyond advocacy; we are committed to reshaping systems, dismantling barriers, and ensuring that inclusion is not an afterthought but a foundational principle in all aspects of life.

We believe in a world where autistic individuals have autonomy, opportunity, and the support they need to lead fulfilling lives. To achieve this, we:
*Empower Families** by equipping parents and caregivers with the tools to become effective advocates, ensuring their children receive the understanding and resources they deserve.
*Amplify Autistic Voices** by centering the lived experiences of autistic individuals in decision-making, affirming their right to both voice and choice in all aspects of life.
*Advance Economic Independence** by creating pathways to meaningful employment, workplace accommodations, and career development tailored to diverse strengths.
*Drive Systemic Change** by promoting **inclusion by design**—ensuring that education, employment, public spaces, and community programs are inherently accessible, affirming, and designed with neurodiversity in mind.

True inclusion means more than just representation—it means reimagining structures so that autistic individuals are not merely accommodated but fully embraced as vital contributors to society. Through advocacy, education, and partnership, The Color of Autism Foundation is working toward a future where every autistic person can live with dignity, purpose, and boundless possibility.

Together, we are building a world where difference is celebrated, barriers are removed, and everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
